Leadership Team
Joseph A. Hoffman
Joseph A. Hoffman is Chief Executive Officer. He joined RBS in May of 2004 as the
Chief Marketing Officer for RBS’ U.S. credit
card operation, a position to which he brings nearly
25 years of credit card marketing experience.
Prior to joining RBS, Joseph spent six years with
Metris Companies, where he held a variety of senior
management positions, the last of which was Executive
Vice President of Marketing and Operations. While
at Metris, he was also a board member of Direct
Merchants Bank, Metris’ legal vehicle, and
the Metris Foundation. Joseph also spent four years
at Advanta where he held a variety of positions,
including Vice President of Brand Management, and
Vice President of Affinity and Co-Brand Marketing.
Before joining Advanta, Joseph was Vice President,
Area Director, in Citibank’s Card Product
Group, which he joined in 1980. During his 14-year
tenure with Citibank, he held marketing and operations
positions within Citibank’s Bankcard and Private

Robert F. Mihalcik Jr.
Robert Mihalcik is a Senior Vice President, responsible
for the Card Operations department within the organization.
The departments within Operations are the Customer
Service Call Center, Collections, Operational Accounting
and Operations.
Robert worked for People’s Bank since the
1985 launch of its credit card division, assisting
in making it a top 20 issuer in the U.S. During
his tenure at People's, Robert held several positions,
most recently First Vice President of Credit Card
Operations, as well as leadership roles in operational
risk, quality management and consumer loan lending.
Robert currently sits on MasterCard’s International
Security Committee and several industry advisory
groups. Robert is a former chairperson of the Seymour
(CT) Board of Education, having served on that board
for more than 15 years. In addition, he served on
various boards and committees within his local community.
Robert holds a BA in Political Science from Fairfield

Stuart Minster
Stuart Minster is responsible for Business Development
and Change.
Stuart joined National Westminster Bank (NWB) in
1988 as an electrical power engineer initially reviewing
all critical power systems within the bank and ultimately
managing them. He became Head of Strategic Projects
and Business Development within the Cards division
of NWB shortly before RBS Group acquired NWB in
2000. Stuart then became Program Director for the
Card Services Integration Program successfully delivering
the largest data migration in Europe within 18 months
of the acquisition.
In 2003, he became Head of International Development,
RBS Card Services, and led the acquisition and subsequent
integration of the newly acquired German Cards Portfolio,
creating a stepping stone into mainland Europe for
RBS. International Development continued to review
the U.S. marketplace leading to the acquisition
of People's Bank credit card portfolio in March
2004, creating a platform for growth in the largest
cards market in the world. These two steps began
the journey for RBS in becoming a global cards business.
Stuart’s career has been to not only challenge
the business paradigm, but to then deliver major
and complex change. He holds a BSc in Electrical
Power Engineering from Southampton University,UK.
He is a member of the Institution of Electrical
Engineers (IEE) and a Charter Engineer (CEng). Back

Deborah Asetta
Deborah Asetta is the Chief Financial Officer responsible
for all of the Finance functions, including reporting,
budgeting and financial analysis. She joined People’s
Bank in 1985 and became part of RBS in March 2004,
when RBS purchased the credit card business from
People’s Bank. Prior to her financial role
in Credit Card for People’s, Deborah directed
the Asset & Liability Committee function for
the bank, which included interest rate risk management,
derivatives hedging activities and implementation
of a bankwide capital allocation process.
Before joining People's, Deborah spent 10 years
with Connecticut National and Shawmut National Banks
where she managed various capital markets functions,
including derivatives products, short and medium
term funding, and ALCO reporting.
Deborah has a BA from Connecticut College and has
completed a variety of industry related training
and development programs. She has been a speaker
at industry conferences on topics in the Asset and
Liability Management arena.

S. Michael Steele
Michael Steele is responsible for Human Resources,
Training and Development, and Communications. He
joined People’s Bank in 2000 and became part
of RBS in March 2004, when RBS purchased the credit
card business from People’s.
Before joining People's, Michael was the Vice President
of Global Organization Development with MasterCard
International. Prior to that, he was with the IBM
Corporation where he held a variety of senior HR
positions.
Michael is a former member of the Boston University
Executive Development Roundtable and the Conference
Board – Council on Education, Training and
Development. He has served on the executive development
advisory council of the Darden School and the American
Graduate School of International Management. He
also serves on the Board of Directors of two service
organizations for developmentally disabled adults,
and coaches an alpine ski team for the Connecticut
Special Olympics.
Michael has a BS in Industrial Engineering and Commerce
from Montana State University. Back
